Payments

Client payments can fail for a number of reasons. If the client is paying by credit card, failures happen immediately, typically due to processor declines, incorrect card details, insufficient funds, or other bank-related issues. If you receive a generic decline with no additional details, please contact your bank.

ACH and SEPA payments can fail days after they’re initiated. If an ACH or SEPA payment fails, we’ll notify the client and direct them back to checkout to retry the payment.

Payouts

Most failed payouts are caused by outdated or incorrect payment details. Double-check that your payout method is up to date and that all information is accurate.

Common reasons payouts fail:

  • Name mismatch: The name on your Contra wallet must match the beneficiary name on your payout account exactly.

  • Business vs. individual account conflict: If you set up your wallet as an individual but want payouts sent to a business account, you’ll need to update your setup. Contact us at hello@contra.com so we can reset your wallet and help you onboard as a business.

Trying a different payout method

If your current payout method continues to fail, try adding a new payout method. Switching to an alternative option can help avoid provider-specific issues.
