By default, your Contra portfolio URL follows the format: yourname.contra.com. To enhance your professional identity and make your portfolio more appealing to potential clients, you can customize this domain to carry your unique brand name.
Follow these steps to connect your custom domain to your Contra portfolio:
Step 1: Input your custom domain address
Navigate to your Portfolio page and select “Custom domain” from the right-hand side menu. Enter your existing domain address in the search bar. Make sure your domain address starts with http://www followed by your unique URL.
Step 2: Choose your domain provider from a list
From the dropdown menu, select the name of your domain registrar. The menu features popular registrars like GoDaddy, Google Domains, Namecheap, Squarespace, and Wix. If your registrar is not listed, select "Other".
If you’re having issues connecting your custom domain, please visit your domain provider’s troubleshooting guidelines for more information.
Step 3: Link your domain to your Contra portfolio
The necessary information for your domain registrar will automatically populate. Copy the hostname, record type, and value into your registrar. Confirm that you've transferred the record type to your registrar by checking the box, then click on the "Connect Domain" button.
Step 4: Verify your connection status
After clicking the "Connect Domain" button, you will see your default portfolio domain, your custom portfolio domain, and any domain connected to Contra. Your custom portfolio domain will show one of two statuses:
Not Connected: Your domain may take a few minutes to connect to your portfolio. If it takes longer than five minutes, consider troubleshooting.
Connected: Great! Your domain has been successfully connected. Share it and stand out!
Important Note:
Contra automatically generates an SSL certificate, so you don't need to purchase or set up one separately! If you've linked a secondary SSL certificate, revert your settings to DNS only to avoid connection issues with your Contra Portfolio.
Troubleshooting:
Give it time: DNS record changes can take a couple of hours to propagate to all DNS servers.
Check your records: Ensure any previous records linked to your host are deleted. Only one A record should be pointing to Contra.
DNS cache: Flush the DNS cache on your system using this resource.
