Freelancing doesn’t have to be a solo journey, especially on Contra.
Our new Taste Tests feature is designed to bring your creative community into your process, helping you get quick, valuable feedback on your work while connecting with other Independents along the way.

Here’s everything you need to know 👇

What Are Taste Tests?

Taste Tests are a new post type on Contra that let you ask your community for feedback in a visual, engaging way.

Think of them as creative polls. You upload up to two visuals (like design options, brand concepts, or thumbnail variations), and your followers vote for their favorite.

It’s an easy, fun way to:

  • Compare different creative directions (“Which logo feels stronger?”)

  • Test audience reactions before a client presentation or launch

  • Invite creatives to weigh in on your work in progress

Once people vote, they’ll instantly see the results, and often jump into the comments to explain why they chose what they did.

It’s not just feedback, it’s connection.

Why You’ll Love Taste Tests

Taste Tests are designed to make your creative process more collaborative and energizing.

They help you:

  • Get honest opinions fast. Real votes from real creatives who know their stuff.

  • Spark conversation. Every vote invites a “why,” turning feedback into learning moments.

  • Engage your audience. Polls are naturally interactive — they draw people in and keep them scrolling.

  • Build relationships. When you invite others into your process, they’re more likely to follow, comment, and support your next post.

Taste Tests make the feed feel like a studio full of peers, not just a scroll of finished work.

How to Create a Taste Test

Getting started is simple:

  1. Start a new post on your Contra feed.

  2. Upload up to 2 images. These are your design options, concepts, or creative ideas.

  3. Add a short prompt or question (“Which landing page feels more premium?” “Which color palette fits the vibe?”)

  4. Publish and share your post to invite the community to vote.

Once your Taste Test is live, your followers can vote, see results, and comment.

Pro Tip: Make It Visual

The best Taste Tests use strong visuals and clear questions.
Try pairing side-by-side images with a question that invites opinions, like:

  • “Logo A or B for a coffee brand?”

  • “Which portfolio cover stands out most?”

  • “Which animation style should I explore further?”

You’ll be surprised how much engagement and insight you get from even a simple “this or that” post.
