Introduction
Services on Contra allow you to effectively monetize your best skills. They act as a menu of the skills you want to work on and get paid for. Clients can see what skills you’re offering and send an inquiry or purchase a Quick Hire service with one click, without the hassle of negotiating your rates.
Setting Up Your Services
To detail your service offerings, you're required to create at least two services. Here's how to do it:
1. Service Overview
The title of your service should be straight to the point, quickly indicating what you offer. For example, “60-Minute Product Strategy Call” clearly outlines the service without having to expand the service details.
Include search tags to help clients discover your services on Contra’s Services Marketplace. Add 1-5 tags for your Role (ex. Copywriter, 3D Designer, or Product Manager), 1-5 tags for Tools (ex. Notion, Figma, or Loom), and optionally, 1-3 tags for your Industry (ex. Design).
2. Deliverables
While working on a service, there will always be an outcome, or a deliverable. Title your deliverable(s) and provide a description of what you'll do to achieve that deliverable. Be specific about the number of revisions, if any, that you're willing to provide.
3. Pricing and Service Type
Contra offers two types of services and three ways to price your skills:
Quick Hire: List a pre-defined service for a set price that clients can purchase in one click. This is suitable for standard projects, like logo design or building a Framer landing page.
Inquire First: This is for projects that require special scope from the client, or extra customization. Clients contact you to discuss and kick off the project.
You can price your services as Fixed Price (ex. $1000), Ongoing (ex. $100/hour or you can set it up as weekly or monthly), or Contact for pricing.
Also, estimate a timeline for how long the project will take from start to deliverable (ex. 1 week).
4. Service Description
This is where you highlight why someone would want to hire you. Explain your process, add an FAQ section, list any requirements (what you need from a client to kick off work), and link example projects from your Contra profiles. More details increase your chance of landing a client and help with SEO.
5. Visual Appeal
Finally, to make your service stand out on your profile, portfolio, or Contra’s Services Marketplace, add an eye-catching cover image.
Conclusion
Detailing your service offerings on Contra not only helps clients understand your skills and offerings but also streamlines the process of getting hired. Remember to be as specific as possible and include all the critical information to make it easier for clients to choose your services.
